If you like it and you can relate to the message then what does it matter what he was doing before NIN. I don’t care what Trent was doing in the 80′s and I don’t care if he is who he says he is and why should anybody care. None of us know who Trent is and you’re just fooling yourself if u think you do.

  I wouldn’t be surprised. This “romantic synth pop stuff” is actually dark stuff. People like Depeche Mode, Thomas Dolby, Gary Numan, they’re all pretty outside, but machines inside.
  And if you’re really listening to NIN’s music and see Trent onstage, you’ll know that his music is very very sexual.
